Lib Dems make gains in Broadstone and Merley/Bearwood

Liberal Democrat candidates enjoyed success in last Thursday's local elections. Seats were gained from the Conservatives in Broadstone and Merley/Bearwood wards and so changed the balance of power on Poole Borough Council. Elsewhere in Poole the story was one of 'no change' apart from Hamworthy West where two Lib Dem seats were lost to the Conservatives. The Conservative majority on the council has now slipped to 8 from 10 and the seats are shared 17 Lib Dem (+1) and 25 Conservative (-1).

The siting of phone masts can be highly controversial as Broadstone residents have demonstrated. However Poole Council looks likely to make it even more so.

SAFER ROUTES TO SCHOOL - NEW SIGNS

New school signs for Clarendon Road are likely to be approved at the next Area Committee on April 11th. The junction with Lewesdon Drive has developed into a potential danger area for children at Springdale First School because of high volumes of traffic at school times conflicting with through traffic on Clarendon Road.
