New figures released today by the Office of National Statistics show that the number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Mid Dorset and North Poole has risen by 19% in just one month. Across the country the figure has also risen, despite an expectation by economists that the number of people claiming unemployment benefit would fall by 10,000 in January.

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, used an opportunity at Prime Minister's Questions yesterday challenge Gordon Brown over the appalling failure of the Government to ensure that health information is accessible to patients with sight loss.

Annette Brooke MP today backed the global campaign to end preventable child deaths. Annette added her name to the list of MPs calling for action to end the international child health emergency that is currently claiming the lives of 24,000 children under the age of five every day.
