Massive Support for Farmers' Market

Broadstone councillors, Mike Brooke, Daniel Martin and Graham Mason have been carrying out a survey to establish the level of support for the Farmers' Market which comes to Broadstone on the third Saturday every month. "We decided to carry out our survey, which is reaching every house in Broadstone, when issues relating to the market's location were raised by both residents and stall holders. The response is enormous and it is clear there is overwhelming support for it to stay in Broadstone " said Cllr Mike Brooke. The residents' preference is for it to stay in the toast rack though many have suggested Broadstone First School as a possible site.

Many comments have been made which suggest that if the market leaves Broadstone residents will take their shopping elsewhere. Cllr. Dan Martin added: "there is certainly a very strong feeling amongst local residents who have really appreciated the additional choice the market has afforded them"

At the present time the market organisers are continuing their negotiations with both Broadstone First School and the Royal British Legion and it is likely one of these sites will be used. "If this enables the market to stay then this is a good thing for Broadstone" said Cllr. Graham Mason, " but it could also impact upon the vitality of the Broadway as it may take people away from the village centre. We will have to monitor this very carefully."

All three councillors are working with the organisations involved to ensure a satisfactory solution can be found so that both the market and the village centre can successfully co-exist.
