WATCH YOUR SPEED9.31.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 12th Jun 2005 Broadstone's First Speed Indicator Device After nearly two years of campaigning and working closely with residents and the Head Teacher of Springdale First School, Councillor Mike Brooke was delighted to see Broadstone's first SID in action last week. The speed of traffic along Springdale Road has long been of concern to local residents as well as the school since many vehicles travel past the school at speeds in excess of 40mph. The limit is 30mph. Cllr. Brooke said: "I am very grateful to Poole Borough Council for supporting this initiative. This is the first Speed Indicator Device in the Borough and hopefully it will be just one of many. We all know that speed kills but this does not seem to deter many drivers. When they see their speed flash up on the SID it may make them realise they are acting irresponsibly, especially in the vicinity of a school. If drivers do respond by slowing down then it will be a success and accident risk outside Springdale First School will have been reduced." Cllr. Brooke has also asked that the police install a temporary automatic speed checking device further down Springdale road as a means of assessing the effectiveness of the SID. "Springdale Road is both long and relatively straight so it is important that every effort is made to reduce the average speed along its whole length. At just below 40mph it is obvious that this is too high and something has to be done, and sooner rather than later" added Cllr. Brooke
